Arduino LED Project

In order for the 3D printed robot to work, it has to be controlled by many servos and a few microcontrollers. We will be using the Arduino UNO as our microcontroller platform and the Raspberry PI as the “controller” or brain of the bot. In order to make this work, I need to become an EE quick! J/k. I do however need to get up to speed on the basics of electronics. What better way to do this than to design a basic LED circuit!

In this project, I am using 8-bit shift registers to control 48 LED’s from just 3 pins (actually 5, but we won’t get into that here). I wrote a quick library using the arduino platform that can turn on or off a specific LED in the grid. With that, I can do any sort of animation I want. It’s so simple that the animations in the video below were written in about 60 seconds. Maybe I’ll do another blog where I go into detail and you’ll believe me.
